** You can listen to and/or purchase “Unfailing Love” and other songs I’ve written on iTunes or at www.meganisaacson.com.

I have always loved the Psalms. I love the honesty of the writers and how relentlessly they cling to the knowledge that God is good and God is sovereign. I especially love reading King David’s psalms and connecting them with what I know of his life. It’s like reading his story in a history text book and then comparing it with his diary, where he unreservedly reveals his strongest convictions and deepest fears. Which, surprisingly, look a lot like mine. I may not have had a boss who tried to kill me and chase me all over the countryside or a son who tried to take over my throne, but I know what it’s like to feel inadequate, alone, forgotten and afraid, wondering if God sees or cares.

“Unfailing Love” is more or less a hodgepodge of some of my favorite psalms including Psalms 3, 4, 13, 27, 73 and 91.  I wrote it to help myself remember what’s true, especially in those moments when I’m tempted to let myself be carried away by my fears.

Below are some of the passages at the heart of this song. If you find yourself struggling with believing God’s goodness or his ability or desire to meet your needs, I hope you let them speak into your fears and put your heart at rest. Truly, only “with the Lord is unfailing love” (Psalm 130:7).

Psalm 3:1-6 (NIV)
O LORD, how many are my foes!                                                                                                                      How many rise up against me!
Many are saying of me, “God will not deliver him.” Selah
But you are a shield around me, O LORD;  you bestow glory on me and lift up my head.
To the LORD I cry aloud,
and he answers me from his holy hill. Selah
I lie down and sleep;
I wake again, because the LORD sustains me.
I will not fear the tens of thousands
drawn up against me on every side.

Psalm 13:1-6 (NIV)
How long, O LORD? Will you forget me forever?
                                                                                      How long will you hide your face from me?
How long must I wrestle with my thoughts
and every day have sorrow in my heart?
                    How long will my enemy triumph over me?
Look on me and answer, O LORD my God.
Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death;
              my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,”
and my foes will rejoice when I fall.
But I trust in your unfailing love;
my heart rejoices in your salvation.
I will sing to the LORD,
for he has been good to me.

Psalm 27:13-14 (NIV)
I am still confident of this:
I will see the goodness of the LORD
in the land of the living.
Wait for the LORD;
be strong and take heart
and wait for the LORD.

Psalm 73:23-26 (NIV)
Yet I am always with you;
you hold me by my right hand.
You guide me with your counsel,
and afterward you will take me into glory.
Whom have I in heaven but you?
And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart
and my portion forever.

Psalm 91:1-2, 14-16 (NIV)
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
“Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
He will call upon me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
With long life will I satisfy him
and show him my salvation.”
